About the author
Affirmations have had a profound impact on children’s author Terri L. Smith’s life and mindset, and something she incorporated into the start of her day later in life. As a teacher for twenty-eight years, she wants her students to begin their own days with a positive sense of self through affirmations, a practice she wishes she had done as a young girl as an antidote to the teasing she endured. For these and other children, she has created her debut picture book, Rise Every Morning: Affirmations for Big Confidence.
Terri has written this inspiring collection as a guide to foster self-empowerment, self-confidence, and self-esteem. With positive and diverse characters, it was important for Terri for readers to be able to see themselves in the story and resonate with them. She hopes her young readers come away from her story feeling more confident about themselves and about navigating life, and that this stays with them long after the book is closed.
Terri has been an elementary school teacher in the Detroit Public School district for more than twenty-five years. She is also a Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter and hosts a monthly online radio show as well as DJ’s at various events and spaces. She is the founder of The Little Bit Project, a nonprofit organization established in 2015 to promote positive energy through initiating acts of kindness and supporting people in transforming their lives for the better.
This is a free event that needs a ticket to hold your place. Reserve your spot here. An adult needs to attend with children ages 8 and under. The program will last approximately 30 minutes and is limited to 12 children and their adult caregiver(s). We ask that if you are unable to attend you return your spot on Eventbrite so that someone else can use it. Please only reserve ONE TICKET PER CHILD. Adults DO NOT need a ticket.
